The Frenchman played at the base of midfield for the first half at Stadio Pineta, as the Giallorossi opened up a 7-0 lead under new coach Eusebio Di Francesco.
The team eventually went on to win 8-0, with Gonalons happy with how the game panned out.
“I think it went well. We played some good football," Gonalons said. "We've been busting a gut since the start of the training camp but we enjoyed ourselves today and won, so it's all good.”
He added: “The boss is big on getting the ball forward quickly. We've been working on that and we'll keep working on it so we can put his ideas into practice.
“He's got us grafting hard, yes. We're putting in the hard work as you'd expect at this stage of the season. It's important we do things properly now so that we're ready for when the league starts. You have to graft hard – that's what summer training camps are all about.”
Gonalons cut a comfortable figure on the pitch, and revealed that he was feeling comfortable in his new surroundings away from the pitch as well.
“There is a linguistic barrier but I'm starting to get to grips with how the boss wants us to play," he said. "I'm bedding in well thanks to my team-mates' help and I'm enjoying it. I want to have a great season and win trophies with Roma.”
