Substitute Jakob Johansson's deflected shot was the difference between the two sides in Solna - with De Rossi the unfortunate player whose final touch took the ball beyond Gianluigi Buffon.

The result means the Azzurri must win in Milan on Monday night if they are to have any hope of reaching next summer's tournament in Russia.

De Rossi was the only Roma player involved in the first leg: Alessandro Florenzi was an unused substitute, while forward Stephan El Shaarawy watched the game from the stands.
