The Under-19s, who qualified for the competition as Coppa Italia winners last season, were moments away from taking the game at the San Siro to penalties - only for Facundo Colidio to score his second goal of the game in the final minutes of extra-time.

Colidio opened the scoring just three minutes into proceedings, only for Andrea Marcucci to restore parity shortly afterwards.

A decisive third goal eluded both sides until the last moments of the game, when Colidio struck again.

“It’s devastating whenever you lose, but we are working on a long-term project,” De Rossi said.

“We know we are building something over two years. This is just the first year and we hope that we will see the full rewards in the second. We are happy with what we are doing but at the same time we still want to be competitive.”
