Perotti: We were motivated by the fact no-one believed in us

PEOR

Read what Diego Perotti had to say after scoring the fourth goal in Roma's 4-2 win over Napoli on Saturday night.

The result lifted the Giallorossi back up to third in the Serie A standings.

How did Roma manage to come up with that sort of response today?

“We worked really well all week. We knew we played badly against AC Milan and the fact that no one seemed to believe in us anymore was extra incentive and motivation for us in preparing for this game. We fell behind but we all pulled together and recovered. In the end we scored four goals here, which is never easy.”

You're third again now. Do you regret the dip in form you've had these last few months?

“Of course we regret it but it would have been the same regardless of today's result. We mustn't think that this win has suddenly fixed our season. We've had big wins before and then gone and played badly afterwards. We have to build on this result. We've scored four away goals against a team who play great football. We mustn't stop now, because we're heading into the business end of the season.”

How did the players react to what Eusebio Di Francesco said this week?

“He's an excellent coach who gives his all for the team. He always treats us well and gives us freedom to express ourselves – especially us forwards. It would have been wrong if we hadn't responded on the pitch. This is a big step forward for us and for him. We came into this game after a difficult spell but today's win is a big boost for us heading into the coming matches.”

Do you prefer playing in the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3?

“I've always thought it's the players on the pitch who make the difference. We played with more determination today than we have in recent outings and that wasn't easy after losing to Shakhtar and AC Milan.”
