Pallotta and Roma donate $20,000 to fan-led ‘New York Kicks Coronavirus’ campaign

AS Roma president Jim Pallotta has pledged $10,000 to the ‘New York Kicks Coronavirus’ campaign – a joint initiative set up by 34 different supporters clubs in the New York City area

Alongside the president’s $10,000 donation, the club, through its Roma Cares foundation, has pledged an additional $10,000 to the fundraising campaign that was set up in New York on Tuesday with an initial target of $15,000.

‘New York Kicks Coronavirus’ is a campaign that has united supporters clubs from eight different countries in an attempt to tackle the pandemic that is wreaking havoc on New York.

With 140,000 cases and over 5,500 deaths, New York is fast emerging as the new epicentre of the pandemic and many hospitals are already struggling to cope with the sheer volume of patients needing intensive care treatment.

All money from the campaign will be donated to NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health care system in the United States, serving more than one million New Yorkers annually in more than 70 patient care locations across the five boroughs. Their mission is to care for all regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.

“On behalf of the Roma Club New York and all the clubs involved, we want to say thank you to Jim Pallotta and AS Roma for this incredible gesture,” said Claudio Tamborra, Roma Club New York vice president. “This is something that we will always remember. We truly wanted to do something meaningful to fight the Coronavirus. I don’t believe it has ever been done on this scale before – because we are not talking about two or three teams from the same city, this is 34 teams with a lot of rivalries. We thought that it was time to get together and fight for something which is greater than all of us. We feel this pandemic has united us all as human beings.”
