International: Pellegrini clinches Italy win in opener

Lorenzo Pellegrini played a crucial role in Italy's European Under-21 Championship opener against Spain on Sunday, as he scored the game's decisive goal in a 3-1 win.

Pellegrini was fouled in an off-the-ball incident with just under 10 minutes remaining, setting the stage for the Roma midfielder to slot home nervelessly from the spot to wrap up the three points.

Dani Ceballos opened the scoring early on for Spain - but a brace from Federico Chiesa either side of half-time had turned the game around.

Roma teammate Nicolo Zaniolo also started the match in Bologna, although he was forced to come off shortly before half-time after suffering an injury.
