Top 10: Players to have represented Italy and Roma

As club football comes to a temporary stop for the latest round of international fixtures, we decided to take a look at the Giallorossi players with the most caps for Italy down the years...

Four current Roma players have been named in Roberto Mancini's latest Italy squad - Alessandro Florenzi (31 caps to date), Stephan El Shaarawy (23), Bryan Cristante (6) and Nicolo Zaniolo (0) - but all of them have a long way to go before they reach this list...

Here are the 10 former Roma players with the most caps for Italy...

    10. Luca Toni: 47 caps

Toni may have only played half-a-season for the Giallorossi, in which he scored five goals in 16 games, but he enjoyed a long career with the Azzurri - scoring 16 goals and playing a part in the World Cup winning side of 2006.

    9. Giuseppe Giannini: 47 caps

Il Principe ('The Prince') also made 47 appearances for the national team, finishing third at the 1990 World Cup on home turf. Roma born and raised, he made every one of his Italy appearances as a Giallorossi player.

    8. Bruno Conti: 47 caps

One of the standout performers of Italy's World Cup win in 1982, Conti also spent the majority of his career with Roma - making 402 appearances for the club and scoring 47 goals.

    7. Simone Perrotta: 48 caps

Simone Perrotta represented Roma for nine seasons, earning international recognition along the way. A key part of the 2006 World Cup winning team, he ended his international career with 48 caps and two goals.

    6. Fulvio Collovati: 50 caps

Another World Cup winner, this time in 1982, Collovati scored three goals for his country as he brought up a half-century of appearances. For Roma, however, he managed just two seasons at the club - making 65 appearances in total.

    5. Romeo Benetti: 55 caps

Benetti ended his career with Roma, winning the Coppa Italia in both 1980 and 1981. By then his international career was basically over - having made 55 appearances between 1971 and 1980.

    4. Christian Panucci: 57 caps

Panucci scored four goals for Italy during his international career. For Roma he made 351 appearances in eight seasons, scoring 31 goals.

    3. Francesco Totti: 58 caps

Totti won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 and promptly chose to bring his international career to an end, finishing up with 58 caps to his name and a total of nine goals. He was a key player in that World Cup win, however, while his performance at the 2000 European Championship will also live long in the memory. His Roma stats barely need recounting: 786 appearances in a one-club career, scoring 307 goals.

    2. Francesco Graziani: 64 caps

A three-year career at Roma between 1983 and 1986, Graziani arrived as a World Cup winner - having lifted the trophy with Italy in 1982. For the Azzurri he scored 23 goals in 64 appearances - for Roma he managed 21 in 96 games.

    1. Daniele De Rossi: 117 caps

The current club captain has made more appearances for Italy than any other Roma player - and by almost double. De Rossi sits fourth on the all-time list (behind only Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro and Paolo Maldini) and, with 21 goals, is just outside the top 10 in that category too. A World Cup winner in 2006, De Rossi has made 612 appearances for Roma in his career to date.
