Bavagnoli: No underestimating Orobica

Roma Women coach Betty Bavagnoli is confident complacency won’t be an issue when the team face bottom-of-the-table Orobica on Saturday afternoon.

The Giallorosse travel to Bergamo for this week’s game looking to increase their hold on fourth in the Serie A standings, against a side that has picked up just five points all season.

But – perhaps with memories of the earlier Coppa Italia meeting between these two sides up north, where Roma only ran out late 3-1 winners – Bavagnoli does not expect her players to take anything for granted.

“Tomorrow will be a very difficult game – one where I will ask everyone not to underestimate the challenge that is to come,” Bavagnoli told Roma TV.

“Orobica don’t have many points this season but we know they are a good side. We will have to play as we can, being strong when we need to be, managing the game in the right moments and focusing for the entire 90 minutes.

“Every game we have is difficult and important. We know we have to keep pushing forward, focused and humble, to strengthen our hold on fourth even more and keep improving the standard of our performances.”

Bavagnoli will once again have to assess her options, with last weekend’s injury to Flaminia Simonetti adding to a glut of issues in midfield.

The likes of Claudia Ciccotti, Manuela Coluccini and Trudi Carter all remain long-term absentees.

“The girls have been great recently; it was not easy to bounce back after the tough defeat against Juventus – as well as the injuries that we have suffered,” the coach acknowledged.

“But there hasn’t been even a moment where they’ve been down or discouraged.”

Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on Twitter.
