Giallorossi academy system the most productive in Italy

A new study has revealed that Roma’s academy system has helped develop more footballers currently plying their trade in Italy’s top two leagues than any other club.

The Giallorossi youth system is perhaps most famous these days for producing the likes of Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Florenzi – but its influence on the Italian game has been revealed to be much more widespread, based on a story published by Corriere dello Sport on Thursday.

The newspaper compiled a list that revealed a total of 44 current Serie A or Serie B players are products of Roma’s academy, more than any other club.

AC Milan sit second on 43 players, with Inter Milan having produced 40.

Nineteen of those Roma-affiliated players currently play in Italy’s top flight, with five of them currently a part of Eusebio Di Francesco's first-team squad – De Rossi, Florenzi, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Elio Capradossi and Mirko Antonucci (who made his senior debut in January).

Other notable graduates of the Alberto De Rossi's Primavera side on Corriere dello Sport's list include Italy international Alessio Romagnoli and Sassuolo winger Matteo Politano.
