Roma qualify for Champions League knockout stages

Roma have qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League, despite losing 2-0 against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

With CSKA Moscow losing at home to Viktoria Plzen earlier in the night, both sides were guaranteed their place in the knockout phase of the competition even before the action kicked off at the Stadio Olimpico.

Real's win - with the goals scored by Gareth Bale and Lucas Vazquez - means they progress as group winners, with Eusebio Di Francesco's side finishing runners-up, regardless of results on Matchday 6.

The Giallorossi travel to the Czech Republic to face Plzen, with the hosts still hoping to qualify for the Europa League knockout phase by finishing third in Group G.

By finishing second in the group, Roma will face a group winner when the draw for the last-16 is made next month.
