Manolas: Got to take your chances against the best

Defender Kostas Manolas bemoaned a slew of missed opportunities, after Roma were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Giallorossi lost out on the chance to top Group G after goals from Gareth Bale and Lucas Vazquez, but will nevertheless be in the draw for the last-16 when it is made next month.

Reflecting on the result, the Greek centre-back acknowledged that the Giallorossi paid the price for not taking their opportunities when they created them.

“Unfortunately we didn’t make the most of four great chances," Manolas said.

"We needed to score first; we didn’t manage that and once they did they managed the game well."

He added: “We are a young squad, we need to be patient. In the first half we were the better side, but we didn’t take full advantage and when you don’t – against the winners of the last three Champions League – clearly you aren’t going to win the game.”

Now the squad have a huge Serie A clash against Inter Milan.

“I’m happy at Roma. I’m having a good season personally but as a team we need to find consistency," Manolas added.

"We are a young group, but as I said I think we played well in the first half. We need to bounce back after this, we know we have a huge game on Sunday.”
