Dzeko: We made it tough for ourselves

Dzeko

Edin Dzeko acknowledged that his side had made life difficult for themselves during Sunday's 3-2 win over Pescara.

Dzeko scored his 11th and 12th league goals of the campaign to put the Giallorossi 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes, but in the end it was Diego Perotti's penalty that secured a 3-2 win as the hosts held on somewhat at the Stadio Olimpico.

"We started well, going 2-0 up quite early on," Dzeko said. "Then we lost our way a bit, losing too many balls. It got tough out there. That’s not how it should be.

"We were winning 2-0, then after they brought it back to 2-1 we managed to get the third. But they made it 3-2 not long after that. It was not easy, but we’ve bagged the three points.”

You’re now four points behind Juventus and you have games against Lazio and Milan coming up.

“I take things game by game. That’s how we need to go about our work, but there are areas we have to improve. If we play like we did today, we won’t win the derby.”

It’s almost as if you stopped playing once you went 2-0 up. Is it a mental issue?

“I don’t know why that happened. It was important today to get the three points, as will be the case in our next game. There’s more riding on the derby and we’ll do all we can to win it.”

Are you going through the best spell of your career?

“I’ve scored 12 goals and I feel good. I want to keep going like this and offer even more.”
