Roma complete signing of Lucas Digne

Digne

The defender arrives from the French club on a temporary deal until June 30, 2016 in exchange for a loan fee of €2.5m. The agreement includes an option to make the move permanent ahead of the 2016-17 season.

The 22-year-old French international signed his contract with the Giallorossi after completing a medical in the capital.

Considered one of the rising stars of French football, Digne began his professional career at Lille and was handed his first-team debut for the club in 2011 by current Roma coach Rudi Garcia.

Despite his youth, his composed early performances for Lille quickly earned him a regular starting role at left-back and the following season he went on to make seven appearances in the Champions League.

Following success for France at the 2013 U20 World Cup, where he played in every game, the defender swapped Lille for Paris Saint-Germain and won two league titles and a Coupe de France.

In 2014, France manager Didier Deschamps handed him his first run-out with the senior side and a few months later included him in the national squad for the World Cup. He made one appearance in Brazil and has now featured in eight games for Les Bleus.

After completing his move to AS Roma, Digne told Roma TV: “I chose AS Roma because it’s a legendary club with a big history. I know that in this city and at this club there’s everything you need to have success.”
