“Patrik has one of the brightest futures of any player around,” Roma's sporting director Monchi said, when Patrik Schick’s arrival at the club was confirmed.
It’s fair to say he was not the only one excited by the signing of the Czech Republic international.
Hundreds of Giallorossi fans descended on Rome’s Fiumicino aiport to welcome Schick to the city, as his transfer was close to being concluded and the man himself arrived to complete the formalities. Wanted some of the biggest clubs in Italy and Europe, it was the Giallorossi that Schick opted to sign for, in a transfer that will be a club record fee for Roma when all is said and done.
"This is the ideal club for me," Schick said. "I can't wait to start training with the team."
Schick’s talent was clear for all to see during an impressive first season in Italy, as he scored 11 goals in Serie A – at a rate of almost one every 100 minutes – and grew in confidence and quality the longer the season went on. His 2017 in particular was impressive – in January he scored barely two minutes after coming on against Roma, before going on to reach double figures for goals in his first full campaign in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Now he joins the Giallorossi, where his eye for goal - coupled with an obvious physicality and impressive technical quality – makes him a versatile attacking option for coach Eusebio Di Francesco. Whether he plays as a striker or wider in a front three, Schick’s quality will immediately make him a hugely dangerous attacking threat – and he should only improve even more.
Given what he has already shown so far in Serie A, no wonder fans – and Monchi – are so excited.Show More Show Less
