Debut in serie A
Francesco Totti is not only the captain of AS Roma, but also a talismanic symbol of the Club. Born in San Giovanni, and a supporter of the Giallorossi since a very young age, Roma’s number ten is without question the best player in the club's history.
His career is the stuff of legend. Totti has reached and surpassed many long standing records in his storied career with Roma, which began as a kid and is still ongoing with the same shirt and the same enthusiasm. He is the epitome of the ‘one club man’.
Francesco is Roma's top scorer in the league as well as Europe, and has converted more penalties than anyone else in Giallorossi history. He has made the most appearances in club history and is the top scoring active player in Serie A.
The captain's wonderful career is littered with milestones: the historic Scudetto in 2000-01 – Francesco is now the only remaining player from that side – the Supercup in 2001 and 2007, and the two Coppa Italias won back to back from 2006 to 2008. Totti also won the European U21 championships in Spain in 1996, and the 2006 World Cup, alongside current Roma teammate Daniele De Rossi and former Roma teammate Simone Perrotta.
He's also claimed a host of individual awards: the European Golden Shoe and top scorer in Serie A in 2006-07, two ‘Golden Guerin’ and a dozen ‘AIC Oscars’ as best young player, best Italian and best overall player, top scorer and goal of the season.
In 2012-13, Francesco secured another target in his long, successful career: he overtook Gunnar Nordahl, to move into second place on the Serie A all-time scoring charts. Bags of goals, wonderful skill, and class that will forever remain in the Roma fans' hearts. Totti is all that and more: our captain.
