Pellegrini: "We must be more clinical in the return leg"

Lorenzo Pellegrini spoke to the media after Roma's 2-0 first leg defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday evening.

Here's what the Giallorossi captain had to say...

It seems you couldn't work out the game, do you agree?

"For me, the regret is that they scored two goals while we scored none. For me, the ones who did well were ourselves.

“Unfortunately, we wasted numerous opportunities to hurt them. After the goals, we played and continued to create chances until the end.

“Today they go home believing they have won the tie, while we go home to prepare for Sunday's game and try to make things difficult for them in the second leg.”

It’s difficult to find space when they're so close together. What areas do you need to improve in?

"I think looking at today, we have to improve in front of goal. I'm not sure how many chances we produced. They were strong, and they created opportunities, but we are also strong, and we had them too.

“We played our game today. They were pressing quite low, but we still found ways to try and score goals. We must be more clinical in the return leg. If we score goals and it’s the right day, nothing is given.”
