World Down Syndrome Day: Locanda dei Girasoli visits Trigoria

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on 21 March. It serves as an opportunity to draw attention to the actual abilities and needs of those with Down syndrome.

In order to highlight the importance of this day, AS Roma are delighted to share the best moments of the morning that the visitors from Locanda dei Girasoli spent at the restaurant at Fulvio Bernardini Sports Centre in Trigoria.

The visitors are a shining example of inclusion and appreciation of people with Down syndrome. They have a long-standing collaboration with AS Roma in the Olimpico’s hospitality areas’ catering services, and today they got the chance to serve the footballers their post-training meals. It was a dream come true for many, a story to be told and retold.

La Locanda dei Girasoli is a catering service that combines the love of quality cuisine with the inclusion of young people with Down syndrome, Williams syndrome and other cognitive impairments in social and working environments.

The project’s main aim is integrating those with Down syndrome into the labour market, dignifying the individual through a tailored pathway, training and job placement.

It’s because Down Syndrome does not define a person; it’s only one part of what makes them unique.
