Monchi angry at missed decisions

MOCNHI

Read what sporting director Monchi had to say in the wake of Roma's Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard was disappointed at the performance of officials during the tie - feeling the Giallorossi were on the wrong end of a number of mistakes.

“At Anfield we conceded a goal that was offside and today there were two penalties not given to us, one of which should have led to a red card," Monchi said. "It would have been different with VAR.

“It's time to raise our voice on this because it's not just Roma who are in this situation: a similar thing happened to Juve against Real Madrid.

“It's incredible to think what happened today – it's playing with the hearts of the fans and those of us doing our jobs.

“Congratulations to Liverpool for going through but certain things need to be looked at. It would have changed a lot because we only needed one more goal.

“I haven't been in Italy for long and I'm Spanish but I think Italian football should raise its voice because I don't think all this is normal.

“I don't understand why VAR isn't used in the biggest club competition there is. I've always defended VAR in Italy. You still get some mistakes of course, but a lot fewer. Things happened yesterday and today that have a big impact financially and more importantly sentimentally for the fans and those of us doing our jobs.

“The lads were angry in the dressing room because we were amazing in the second half and we deserved better. We can only hope that the people who decide these things give it some thought and bring in VAR next year so that we can avoid more mistakes like this.

“I think we really need it. Two penalties today would have changed so much, but I don't want to think about it anymore. Now we should just congratulate Liverpool.”
