Dzeko: I'll be proud to watch a semi-final draw with Roma in it

IAMG

Read what goalscorer Edin Dzeko had to say in the aftermath of Roma's historic 3-0 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night.

The Giallorossi progressed on away goals, despite losing the first leg 4-1. Dzeko grabbed the first goal of the night, pushing the side onto the path to victory.

After a night like tonight, is the best yet to come?

“The best came tonight but it could come again in a few weeks' time! We can beat anyone playing the way we did tonight. We could have scored more too. We got at them right from the off - I've never seen Barcelona struggle like that before.”

What can you say about your partnership with Patrik Schick? How come you two aren't so aggressive when you play together in the league?

“Schick is young and still developing but he played well today. It was easier for me having him and Radja [Nainggolan] close by – it meant I had more space. We went with a back three for the first time and it worked really well. I don't know what to say about our league results; obviously we're not happy when we drop points at home. We have seven games left to play and they're all important – starting with the derby.”

What did your wife and daughter say to you today? Did they believe you could pull it off?

“We all believed, even though people only gave us a 5% chance of going through. Well, we've done it now – in spectacular fashion – and I think we deserve to take our place in the last four.”

Do you feel more joy for what you've achieved or disappointment for what you haven't been able to do?

“It's hard to explain. People often talk about the mentality at Roma but if you don't have a strong mentality you can't win games like this one tonight. We've beaten some top teams. When we're favourites we think everything's easy but it never is. You have to give everything all the time.”

How far can Roma go in the Champions League now?

"Hopefully all the way to the final! No one believed in us and yet we've managed to reach the semi-finals for the first time. We'll be up against some very tough opponents but then Barca were too. I'm very happy that I'll be able to watch the draw and see Roma in the hat...”
