De Rossi lays wreath at Hillsborough memorial

AS Roma captain Daniele De Rossi tonight laid a wreath on behalf of the football club at the memorial for the 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough on April 15, 1989

The Roma squad visited the memorial to pay their respects to the victims of the stadium disaster after taking a walk on the Anfield pitch ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League semi-final tie.

The players were escorted out of the stadium by an LFC steward and then led to the memorial before being addressed by Liverpool FC club chaplain Bill Bygroves.

Bygroves explained to the Roma players what happened to the fans who died and the subsequent fight for justice by the families and survivors, with his words being translated into Italian by a member of the football staff.

Many of the Roma players, who were joined by Francesco Totti and a delegation of club executives, appeared visibly moved by the story of the disaster and the tragic loss of life.
