Roma sporting director Monchi acknowledged that the club is not currently going in the right direction, after Saturday’s home defeat to Atalanta.

The Giallorossi succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against La Dea at the Stadio Olimpico, despite Edin Dzeko’s second half strike. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side survived despite being down to 10-men for 45 minutes.

The result continued a difficult recent run for the club, following a defeat against Juventus and home draw with Sassuolo.

“It’s a bad spell, and we aren’t on the path we went to be,” Monchi said. “We find ourselves in a difficult situation and the mood is not great.

“It’s not just a mental issue, but also a sporting one and one of attitude. We don’t find ourselves in this situation because of only one issue. We have to work hard, as a group, to find the solutions.”

The sporting director was asked how serious a cause for concern the club’s recent run really is.

“We are a great club. One defeat is a crisis, two defeats is something even worse,” he added. “We have to face this with the mindset that all of us making mistakes, myself first and foremost.

“We will work together inside Trigoria to find answers. Talking publicly about it doesn’t really help."
