Nainggolan: The result is the only positive aspect

Radja Nainggolan acknowledged that Roma had not produced a great performance, despite their 2-1 win over Qarabag on Wednesday night.

Kostas Manolas and Edin Dzeko scored the goals on the night for the Giallorossi - ending an almost seven-year run without an away win in the Champions League - but afterwards Nainggolan, who started the game as captain, was not overly impressed.

"The most important thing was to win," he said. "We know we haven’t produced our best performance, but we’ve got the three points. That’s the only thing we can be satisfied with."

The Belgian expressed a certain frustration at his team's inability to kick on after an impressive start, which saw the Giallorossi 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes.

"We started very well, got into a two-goal lead and had more chances to make it 3-0, but then we stopped," he added. "We didn’t play the way we can.

"The playing surface and other factors are just excuses – we need to look to ourselves and do better. As I’ve said, getting the three points was the only thing that mattered today.

"Perhaps we thought it would be easy to come here and win – maybe we underestimated things. That said, what counts is that we take the three points back to Rome."
