Strootman: We need to make sure we learn from this

STOM

Read what Kevin Strootman had to say following Roma's disappointing 4-1 friendly defeat against Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Strootman scored the Giallorossi's only goal of the game at Balaidos, as Eusebio Di Francesco's side struggled to recover from a nightmare first half.

What went wrong tonight?

"It’s a bad defeat. It’s never nice to lose, but to lose like we have done tonight – conceding four goals in the first half – is not acceptable for Roma. We can’t let our heads drop. The most important thing was to work hard in training and that’s what we’ve done. We need to push on – it’s a good thing that this defeat has come in pre-season."

How do you feel with one week until the start of the season?

"I feel good and I think everyone else does too. We’ve done some good work in training, even if that didn’t show today. We need to be ready for Atalanta v Roma – that’s the most important thing."

Has it been harder to adapt to the playing style for this season than you expected?

"We’re making the change and I think we just need to take what we’re doing in training and produce that in matches. We’ll be ready next week because we’re up against a good side in Atalanta."

Can this squad win the Scudetto?

"Now is not the time for talking. We want to achieve great things but we can’t be talking about the Scudetto now. Maybe we’ll speak about it February or March."

You’ve been linked with Juventus this week. Any truth in that?

"I’ve not spoken to anyone. I’m focused on Roma. I’m training with my team-mates all the time and I don’t need to address these rumours."
