Roma to host Chapecoense in special friendly match

Roma will host Brazilian club Chapecoense in a special friendly match on Friday 1 September, in a meeting organised by the Giallorossi, the Vatican and the city of Rome.

All proceeds from the match, which gets underway at 20:45 local time at the Stadio Olimpico, will be donated to Chapecoense, to aid with the club's ungoing upkeep and recovery after the air disaster they suffered while travelling to the first leg of the Copa Sudamerica final in November 2016.

Tickets for the game will go on sale on Monday 21 August.

The game has been arranged by the Giallorossi, in conjunction with the Pope’s Consiglio della Cultura (Cultural Council), Roma Capitale and CONI (the Italian Olympic Committee).

The game comes almost a year on from the plane crash in Colombia in which almost all members of the club’s playing and technical staff passed away, creating a worldwide outpouring of grief – and a similar number of attempts and offers to help, among them from Roma.

Since the tragedy Chapecoense have shown remarkable courage and character, winning the Catarinense regional championship this year and currently sitting 13th in the Brazilian top flight.

More details over ticketing for the friendly game - which comes during the season's first international break - will be released in the upcoming days, with the hashtag #TodosJuntos (‘All together’ in Portuguese) attached to the game.

See you at the Olimpico for what promises to be an emotional night.
