Monchi issues update on futures of Salah and Rudiger

Roma sporting director Monchi has clarified the situation surrounding Antonio Rudiger and Mohamed Salah, following media reports about the two players.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon as the club presented new coach Eusebio Di Francesco to the assembled media, the Spaniard made it clear that the club are setting the agenda in the transfer market this summer and are only interested in improving on last season.

He said there was "no chance" that Rudiger will leave, while any interested party will have to meet the asking price for Salah.

"It is true that there is interest in Salah from an English club, there is an offer, but we set the price and we decide if we sell at that price," Monchi told reporters. "There have been no negotiations about Rudiger, and there is no chance he will leave. Zero."

Pressed further on the club's transfer approach, Monchi presented a clear vision.

"Roma is not a supermarket," he said. "Our aim is to get better than last season.

"We need to keep together the best possible squad. There is no team in the world game that does not sell at least one player. As I said, the problem is not to sell, the problem is to buy badly: if one leaves he will have to be replaced properly."

On Tuesday the club confirmed the acquisition of Hector Moreno, a player who had been little mentioned in the media.

"My aim is not to buy players you [reporters] haven't been speaking about," Monchi said.

"We are working with the coach and we already know the players the coach wants, we know where to reinforce and we've shared some names.

"Some projects are in progress, but I don't think there will be surprises in the very short term."
