Roma to face Sevilla in Antonio Puerta Trophy

IEM

Roma will play Spanish side Sevilla for the Antonio Puerta Trophy in August, as part of the club’s pre-season preparations for the 2017-18 season.

The game will take place at Sevilla’s home ground, the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, on August 10.

Roma’s sporting director Monchi will make an early return to his old team, where he helped them win a record five Europa League titles, for the contest – which is in remembrance of former player Antonio Puerta, who sadly died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a game in 2007.

The game adds to the club’s preparations for the new campaign, which will see them begin with a training camp in Pinzolo, Trentino (July 7-14) before heading off for a tour of the United States that involves International Champions Cup games against Paris Saint-Germain (19 July), Tottenham (25 July) and Juventus (30 July) in three different cities.

The Giallorossi will be just the second non-Spanish side to play in the Antonio Puerta Trophy, after Argentine side Boca Juniors played in last year’s match.

Sevilla have won the tournament on six of the eight occasions it has been played to date.
