AS Roma induct Totti into Hall of Fame

HALLOF

AS Roma is proud to announce that it has inducted Francesco Totti into the club’s Hall of Fame with immediate effect.

The club believes that this is what the supporters and the various committees which have convened since 2012 to nominate the Hall of Fame’s members would want.

Today’s announcement takes the total number of players in the AS Roma Hall of Fame up to 28.

Tott’s incredible Roma career drew to a close on Sunday after 786 appearances and 307 goals for his hometown club. He becomes the only member of the Hall of Fame Class of 2017 and now joins the players who have been inducted into the club on a yearly basis since its inception.

“This is our way of recognising Francesco’s time at Roma and his contribution on and off the field since 1989,” said AS Roma president Jim Pallotta. “This is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest players of all time.”

“I feel profoundly honoured to receive this recognition, and in the way it has been bestowed,” Totti said. “To be among my idols, and those for generations of Giallorossi fans, is a privilege. For this I want to thank Roma, for achieving this new honour by wearing the colours of the club of my heart and my city.”

Totti, whose 570 competitive games as captain alone would make him the Giallorossi’s all-time leading appearance maker, began his 28-year stay at Roma on 20 July 1989 when he joined the club’s Giovanissimi (U15s) side after spells with Fortitudo (1983-1985), SMIT Trastevere (1985-86) and Lodigiani (1986-1989).

From his first appearance for Roma - a 2-0 win over Almas in the Giovanissimi Romani league on 15 October 1989 - to his final game against Genoa on 28 May 2017, Totti broke a whole host of club records.

He earned the love and respect of Roma fans and football lovers the world over and in the process collected one league title, two Italian Super Cups, the Coppa Italia twice and the FIFA World Cup in 2006.

His most prestigious individual accolades include the European Golden Shoe as the continent’s top scorer in 2006-07 and the Golden Foot Award in 2010.

As well his 250 goals in Serie A – second on the all-time list and the most for a single club – Totti is also among the top three players in terms of Italian top-flight appearances.
