AS Roma confirm summer tour in the United States

The club is delighted to confirm the team will participate in the 2017 International Champions Cup in the United States this summer

AS Roma is delighted to confirm the team will participate in the 2017 International Champions Cup in the United States this summer.

For the second year in succession, the club is heading to North America in July for its pre-season tour - where we will take on Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus.

The club’s full ICC match schedule:

July 19, Detroit (Comerica Park)
Paris Saint-Germain v. AS Roma

July 25, New Jersey (Red Bull Arena)
AS Roma v. Tottenham Hotspur

July 30, Foxborough (Gillette Stadium)
AS Roma v. Juventus

“It's an honour for Roma to be back competing in the International Champions Cup, alongside the best teams in world football,” said Jim Pallotta, president of AS Roma. “This prestigious competition now has a fixed spot in the calendar and some great matches against top opposition in extraordinary arenas await us.

“It's an opportunity to showcase Roma on the international stage and I’m especially happy we're playing in the United States again, so we can deepen the bond between the club and our American supporters.”

Roma will both open and close the tournament - beginning with a meeting against Paris Saint-Germain, winners of the last four French titles, on July 19.

The city and venue for this match is still to be announced.

The Giallorossi will then move to New Jersey, where they will face Tottenham Hotspur at the home of the New York Red Bulls.

The club will then star in the final match of the tournament, a clash against Serie A rivals Juventus at Gillette Stadium, home of reigning Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots.

The clash is one of a number of high-profile derby matches planned by organisers Relevent Sports for the ICC this summer.

“The International Champions Cup is thrilled to be bringing two iconic Italian clubs to Boston,” Stillitano added. “Juventus and Roma represent the best of Serie A. Having hosted many international soccer matches, Gillette Stadium is the perfect venue for this ICC match and we expect the city of Boston to come out in full support of these two fine clubs.”

Each team competing in the ICC will play three games, with three points awarded for a win.

Any games that finish level after 90 minutes will immediately go to a penalty shootout - with the winning side awarded two points and the losers one point.

At the end of the tournament, the team with the most points from its three games will be crowned the ICC winner.

"The International Champions Cup has become the driving force for soccer in the United States,” added David Tyler, chief executive of Relevent Sports. "Our commitment to world-class competition and achieving the ultimate fan experience is only matched by the energy that these clubs will bring to ICC host venues around the world.”

Further details about this year’s ICC tournament will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
