Perotti called up by Argentina for first time in six years

IAMG

Diego Perotti has been recalled to the Argentina squad for the first time in six years ahead of the country's friendly matches next month.

Perotti, along with Roma teammate Federico Fazio, has been included in coach Jorge Sampaoli's provisional group for the game against Russia - as both countries begin preparations for the 2018 World Cup next summer.

If involved, Perotti will make his first appearance for the Albiceleste since the 4-1 win over Nigeria in January 2011.

Later, Perotti took to Instagram to react to his call-up.

“It has been six years since this picture was taken [of my last appearance… between good things and bad, life and football have shown me you must never give up or let your head drop!" Perotti wrote.

“Thank you for the support from my family and friends, I am happy to represent my country again. Vamos Argentina!”

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been included in the Brazil squad for the friendly matches with England and Japan.
