Starting today, Giallorossi fans visiting AS Roma Stores will find a collection of vintage products celebrating the rich traditions of the club.

The retro collection has been created in collaboration with official partner Copa, the leading manufacturer of vintage jerseys and jackets for club and international sides.

There are currently six items in the collection: four jerseys and two jackets. Let’s take a closer look at each of them in turn…

This zip-up number is a homage to the jackets worn by the Giallorossi in the late 1960s and throughout the following decade. Red with double yellow trim around the collar and cuffs, it features an iconic AS Roma logo stitched into the breast.

Taken in 1973, the photo below shows the jacket being worn by AS Roma Hall of Fame member Francesco Rocca.

Worn for just three matches, this jersey was nonetheless a memorable one in Giallorossi history. Instantly recognisable for its orange shoulder pads and wide polo collar, the V-neck also features the iconic Lupetto badge on the breast.

The jersey was used for an end-of-season tour of North America in May 1980, as Roma took on Vancouver Whitecaps, New York Cosmos and Manchester City.

It was also the first Giallorossi jersey to feature a commercial brand – that of CIT (the Italian Tourism Company) – on the breast.

Another iconic Roma jersey. With a dark red collar and two-tone trim in red and orange, this stunning white number was often used even for home matches. The Giallorossi were entitled to a tricolore rosette on the breast after their Coppa Italia win the previous season, with the Lupetto badge moving to the right sleeve.

It was in this jersey that Paulo Roberto Falcao made his debut for the Giallorossi in a friendly against Sport Club Internacional (his former side) on 29 August 1980. Roma went on to retain the Coppa Italia wearing these famous white jerseys.

Red with orange sleeves and shoulders, this unmistakeable training jacket was used by Nils Liedholm’s side during the season that culminated in the Giallorossi’s second Scudetto triumph. Roma continued to wear the jacket for the first half of the 1983-84 season, with the tricolore Scudetto stitched into the breast.

Simple, historic, successful. And always long-sleeved.

A completely red, crewneck jersey, the only yellow element was the interlinking ASR logo contained within a circular crest on the breast. Introduced in the 1936-37 season, it was regularly used during the 1941-42 campaign, as Roma tasted Scudetto glory for the first time.

The “ice lolly” jersey of 1978-80

The jerseys used by Roma in the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons were designed by Piero Gratton, the same man who created the famous Lupetto logo.

With its bright red body, orange and yellow shoulders and white sleeves, it is probably Roma’s most unconventional jersey ever. Yet it remains an unforgettable symbol or an era which saw the club make the move into the world of advertising. The unusual colours saw the jersey earn the nickname of the “ice lolly”.

Below is striker Roberto Pruzzo in action with the jersey.
