Founded in 2014 with the aim of promoting education and positive values in sport, Rome Cares is a public charity tied to AS Roma’s wider context of respect and corporate social responsibility.
The charity carries out activities with the local community through projects and campaigns that principally aim to support and develop the growth of children and youth in disadvantaged situations.
For this purpose, Rome Cares is involved in planning, implementing and organising free sports initiatives for disadvantaged children, guaranteeing them their right to sports and making sport accessible to the needy, recognising its primary and irreplaceable educational, social and protection function.
Rome Cares’ activities are aimed at benefitting those with physical, psychological, economic, social or family disadvantages.
The charity shares AS Roma’s fundamental principles: responsibility towards the local community, being dedicated to projects capable of guaranteeing a lasting legacy, focusing on youth, respecting the community’s identity and the ancient tradition that makes Rome a capital naturally predisposed to integration and enrichment based on cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity.
Roma Cares fights all forms of discrimination, be it race, religion, sexuality or gender. Through national and international initiatives and working alongside equality agencies, Roma Cares is wholly committed to providing a range of activities highlighting the dangers and impact of discriminatory behaviour.
Roma Cares, in collaboration with Roma Capitale, the Vatican and different institutions, will also take an active part in social-educational projects by bringing the values of sport and other important aspects to a new generation of children in schools, hospitals and other places where children live with difficulties.
Since 2013, AS Roma and Roma Cares have supported the Telethon project.
The Roma Cares board is made up of President James Pallotta and Vice Presidents Italo Zanzi and Mauro Baldissoni.
Respect Starts Here: AS Roma's stars go back to school
Roma Cares launched and runs ‘A Scuola di tifo’, an awareness campaign that aims to promote sporting values among primary and middle school children. The Giallorossi players visit local schools and engage with hundreds of students, discussing topics such as mutual respect and tolerance, sport's role as a vehicle for social relationships and supporting your team in a friendly atmosphere.
Tennis with Stars: Charity Event
Roma Cares helps develop charity events with high-profile football stars and national and international celebrities to raise awareness and money for developing and financing different projects. One recent project was ‘Tennis with Stars’, a charitable event that involved both Roma players and international tennis stars at Stadio Nicola Pietrangeli.
All proceeds raised from the event were donated to charitable projects aimed at benefitting disadvantaged children.
